ABOUT INSTITUTE

The Institute of Natural Sciences and Humanities (INSH) was established on September 1, 2023.

The Institute prepares primary students and provides the study of compulsory general education subjects for further study at various departments of the University.

The main goal of general education is to teach students the skills that will help them succeed in the professional field and generally be a well—educated person. General education is defined as a program that develops students' general knowledge, literacy, skills and competencies as the basis for lifelong learning.

The general education curriculum (first year of study) helps to gain learning experience and develop a well-rounded student. The general education program is focused on an interdisciplinary approach, and includes courses in history, natural sciences, social sciences and humanities. These are courses that develop many skills, especially interpersonal ones. The general Education curriculum is a standard, mandatory part of the bachelor's degree program and is designed to promote greater accessibility, a clear and relevant academic path for students to acquire the necessary basic skills to succeed in their lives and their chosen career path.

General education courses:

•        Kazakh, Russian, English languages

•        The history of Kazakhstan

•        Humanities and Social Sciences

•        Mathematics

•        Physics and Electrical Engineering

•        Natural sciences

The Institute provides applicants with the opportunity to prepare qualitatively for their chosen specialty, study the requirements for professions and internships, and then successfully find a job.

The Institute is taught by experienced professors and associate professors, senior teachers and assistants who have been accompanying students on their academic and career paths for many years.

Good knowledge of natural sciences and humanities is one of the most important foundations of any training program in the field of technical sciences. The Institute of Natural Sciences and Humanities provides an extensive knowledge base and, thus, is the best platform for a successful professional career.

The Institute consists of four non-graduating departments:

Department of Languages

The Department of Languages was established on February 1, 2017, by combining the departments of "Kazakh and Russian languages" and "Foreign Languages". The objectives of the department are the formation of linguistic professional competence and the training of highly qualified multilingual (Kazakh, Russian, English, German) specialists in the field of power engineering, telecommunications, IT, information security, ecology.

The teaching staff of the department is engaged in active research activities. The field of research topics of the teaching staff of the department includes issues of trilingualism, methods of teaching languages, and the introduction of innovative technologies into the educational process.

The scientific interests of the faculty are reflected in scientific publications indexed in the Scopus database, in CQAFES journals, in collections of scientific papers, in domestic and foreign journals, including the RSCI.

The teachers of the department conduct various educational activities, the purpose of which is to create conditions for the personal and professional formation of students. Olympiads in four languages are held annually; a scientific student conference; "Decade of first-year students", which includes a cycle of educational and cognitive events of linguistic and cultural content. Students regularly write dictation and systematically participate in university, citywide and republican essay contests in Kazakh and Russian languages. In order to motivate students to study the state language and determine knowledge in the field of Kazakh literature, history and culture of Kazakhstan, university, republican, as well as international intellectual competitions are held. At the same time, events are constantly being held to popularize both Russian and English languages.  Intellectual events contribute to the development of critical thinking, the formation of educational and scientific communication skills and Soft skills among students, as well as the identification and material encouragement of erudite students with a high level of language training with valuable prizes. Special attention is paid by the department to activities aimed at mastering and developing knowledge of foreign languages. So, during the academic year, English Club and English Day are held weekly by both teachers and students themselves. Students have the opportunity to constantly (free of charge) contact with foreign language teachers in their free time in the English Zone to achieve certain educational goals. Students visit the American Corner monthly, where they watch and discuss films in English, communicate online with Americans and thus consolidate and expand linguistic and regional knowledge of a foreign language in practice.

Department of Physics and Electrical Engineering

The Department of Physics and Electrical Engineering was established on the basis of the Department of Electrical Engineering on September 1, 2023. The department called "Theoretical Foundations of Electrical Engineering" was established in 1962 as part of the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute and was called so for many years.

The department employs an experienced teaching staff, the department has a 9th laboratory base, which allows you to conduct disciplines that are the basis for all educational programs at a high level in all sections of physics and the theoretical basis of electrical engineering.

The department annually hosts Olympiads in the disciplines of "Physics", "Theoretical Foundations of Electrical Engineering", "Theory of electrical circuits" and the Republican Olympiad in support of future power engineers with the support of JSC Samruk Energy.

Under the guidance of professor-practitioner Baymaganov Aliaskar Sainovich, our students annually win scholarships from Samruk Energy JSC.

Department of Mathematics

The Department of Higher Mathematics was established in 1975 and is one of the oldest departments of our university. The Department of Mathematics is a general education department that trains undergraduate students in all specialties. Currently, we offer undergraduate programs a set of core and elective disciplines in fundamental mathematics and statistics. We provide students with mathematical knowledge, analytical and logical abilities, computing and data processing skills for a career in today's increasingly digital job market. The ultimate goal of professionally directed mathematical training is defined by the Department of Mathematics as the formation of a mathematical base for future bachelors to successfully master the disciplines of the educational program and carry out professional activities, self-study and further self-development.

Department of Social Sciences

The Almaty Institute of Power Engineering, established in 1975, has had 22 departments, including technical and general disciplines, since March 10. The Department of Social Sciences, founded in 1997, teaches in three languages.
