At the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev, the “Schneider Electric Competence Center” for Industrial Automation has been opened

The opening of the “Schneider Electric Competence Center for Industrial Automation” was another strategically important result of cooperation between Schneider Electric and Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev (AUPET). Schneider Electric is a global leader in providing digital solutions for power management and automation. In these engineering areas, AUPET is the most successful and reputable university in Kazakhstan. It is natural that the Competence Center was opened exactly here - on the basis of the Department “Automation and Control”.

“Schneider Electric's technologies are among the most advanced and are used in factories around the world. We are happy to provide students with the opportunity to learn how to work with them while still at the university. We believe that these competencies will greatly increase the demand for AUPET graduates in the labor market, "said Lev Appakov, General Director of Schneider Electric in Kazakhstan.

A unique laboratory equipped with modern industrial automation equipment and Schneider Electric software has now become the Center's Technical Base. 12 stands cover the entire functionality of the distributed automation system - imitation of measuring instruments, actuators, programmable controllers and the Citect SCADA dispatch control system.

The benches for educational and research purposes are made on the basis of controllers, which are successfully used for the entire range of control tasks. They have special modules for connecting remote peripherals, and provide the broadest communication options for integration into any automation system. The complex use of controllers and visualization systems (SCADA, operator panel) makes it possible to study the features of building automation systems in general and data exchange using industrial networks.

“The opening of the Schneider Electric Competence Center will allow students of our partner university AUPET to undergo training at modern stands that cover the entire functionality of the three-level automation and digitalization system. We are convinced that this approach will help prepare specialists who meet the new challenges of the Industry 4.0 era and are able to solve modern problems at industrial facilities. Thus, we hope to contribute to the development of human resources and professional competencies in Kazakhstan”, - commented Anton Tsapenko, Director of the Industrial Automation Department of Schneider Electric.

The benches of Schneider Electric will become a very high-quality addition to the material and technical base of the educational program "Automation and Control". It is based on 8 educational laboratories equipped with modern equipment from various world manufacturers. The technical equipment together with the authoritative faculty provide the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev a leading position in Kazakhstan in the group of educational programs related to automation. In 2020, in this area, most of the grant holders chose this particular university.

“The development of the material and technical base, taking into account the labor market trends and the achievements of world science and technology, is one of the fundamental directions in the activities of our university. Training programs that meet the requirements for training engineering personnel are being improved on the basis of modern industrial equipment. The opening of the “Schneider Electric Competence Center” will undoubtedly increase the competitiveness of our graduates in the labor market,” emphasized Saule Sagintayeva, the Rector of the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev.

At the same time, the creation of the Competence Center is one of the results of multilateral cooperation. In 2020, Schneider Electric specialists held a series of webinars for students of all specialties of the university. In January 2021, the company organized advanced training courses "Programming and operation of industrial controllers for automation and control systems" for teachers of the Department of "Automation and Control", conducting classes in Kazakh, Russian and English. A number of trainings have already been planned for February-March. Based on their results, candidates for an internship at the Schneider Electric regional training center in Moscow will be selected.

In the future, it is planned to jointly conduct advanced training courses, as well as the participation of faculty and students in projects of the company's partners throughout the country. Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev and Schneider Electric are aimed at long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation!
